In this student version of "That Other Gospel," we concisely explain "The Gospel of God." God's good news explains the coming of his royal rule from heaven to be led by his son, Jesus Christ. The good news of God is not the good news about Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection for man's sin. Instead, the good news from God is the kingdom his son will receive because he was faithful until death. Sadly, many scholars have confused these two teachings of Jesus, which has resulted in the forgetting of the good news of God. The good news of the kingdom of God was the first sermon Jesus preached. Many churches only focus on the gospel of Christ--salvation from sin is the core message. Yet, for the first three years, Jesus preached the gospel of God, Mark 1:14-15.Only during the last six months of his ministry did Jesus preach his death, burial, and resurrection. Only the twelve heard him preach it, and they never understood it until after the resurrection. Understanding this critical difference will correct the incorrect belief that personal salvation is the single goal of Christian preaching. Instead, earning the right to reign with Christ as an overcomer is the first goal -- Matthew 6:33 and Revelation 3:21. The parable of the Talents makes clear the painful lesson many will learn at the Bema--unfaithfulness will not be rewarded with kingdom blessings. The options are commendation, exaltation, and honoration or denouncement, demotion, and separation.No one will lose salvation, but the rewards for faithfulness will be profoundly regretted when lost.
