In 2017, Salvator Mundi by Leonardo Da Vinci set a world record by selling for $450m, the highest ever paid for a work of art. Although it was the only Leonardo known to be owned privately, the image was only thought to be part-painted by the master and it had only been rediscovered in 2005 at a Pennsylvania auction.
