I had a billycart the best in Mount Waverley a fleet of bikes in varying states of repair… a creek to play in and one entire page in the local street directory to explore.

The Last Australian Childhood is a heartfelt collection of stories by Kevin Moloney about growing up as a typical boy in suburban Melbourne in the 1960s.

Each childhood story is written in a different voice to reflect the author’s age when it is set, and with innocence, naivety and humour engages the reader in a family life that was typical of the time simple and uncomplicated. Kevin Moloney appears with his wife Janetta in the reality TV show Travel Guides.

He is a ghost writer and travel and lifestyle writer whose work has appeared in more than 30 different publications across the globe.

I had so many memories bought back to life when I read this book.
It’s so clever in the way it’s written, with humour and honesty. Kevin has shared his thoughts in his description of so many wonderful and colourful stories. What a great read!

If you liked Bill Bryson's "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid", you'll definitely enjoy these distinctly Melburnian tales from surburbia. The insight into Australian family life in the 60s as well as the trials and tribulations of growing up with three sisters is an entertaining, heartwarming, sometimes poignant account of the author's childhood. A great read.
