Five years.

That's how long twelve-year-old Coyote and her dad, River, have lived on the road in an old school bus, criss-crossing the nation.

It's also how long ago Coyote lost her mom and two sisters.

Coyote hasn't been home in all that time, but when she learns that the park in her old neighborhood is being demolished-the very same park where she, her mom, and her sisters buried a treasured memory box - she devises an elaborate plan to get her dad to drive 3,600 miles back to Washington state...without him realizing it.

On the way, they'll pick up an eclectic group of folks. Lester has a lady love to meet. Salvador and his mom are looking to start over. Val needs a safe place to be herself. Coyote will learn that going home can sometimes be the hardest journey of all, but that with friends, she just might be able to turn her 'once upon a time' into a 'happily ever after.'

The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise - Seldom does a cover make me want to read a book but I was intrigued. This is a new author to me but I am not sure I will read another Gemeinhart book. The story and characters were interesting and there was plenty of emotions throughout the pages.

I did not like that "oh my God", and other forms of God, was used throughout the book but in lowercase. Yet, while God is disrespected, there is a gamut of issues that the author included reading like a Sunday newspaper: various forms of abuse, family and police; race and LGBTQ; mental issues; just to mention some. Do not respect Christians, then leave God out instead of spreading your negative opinion and let others learn to ask questions and decide for themselves. All these issues popped up in about a 60-hour time frame.

I like that social media and electronics was not part of the Sunshine Family's lifestyle. The brakes scene, the last eight miles and the policeman leaving two minors on the roadside with animals locked inside the bus was a bit much. Yet, the bookcover is still a great design.
