Excerpt from The Sabbath: A Sermon The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath, ' says our Lord. So much formality entered into the Jewish mode of Sabbath observance, that it might seem as if they considered themselves as mere puppets to be worked by wire-pullers on that holy day. Sad it is that the same might now be said of many who profess to keep the Christian Sabbath. While carefully abstaining from all manual labour, and perhaps presenting themselves in the house of God, are not their minds too often busy doing over again the work of the past, and planning out work for the future. Many worshippers' hearts, we fear.
