A strange, formidable wind blows into Stellar Plains, New Jersey, where Dory and Robby Lang teach at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. Dory is suddenly and inexplicably repelled by her husband's touch, whilst back at school, life imitates art. The new drama teacher's end-of-term play is Aristophanes' LYSISTRATA, in which women withhold sexual privileges from their menfolk in order to end the Peloponnesian War. And all across town, there's a quiet battle between the sexes: relationships end abruptly and marital issues erupt. Women continue to be claimed by the spell - from Bev Cutler, the overweight guidance counsellor to Leanne Bannerjee, the sexy school psychologist - even the Langs' teenage daughter, Willa, is affected - until everything comes to a climax on the first night of LYSISTRATA...
