Normsi was chosen to die. Chosen by his own government in the interest of peace. The highest honor a citizen could render his world. Mankind had avoided war for thirty-five years, but it dared not frustrate the mounting death wish of the species. Without these cullings man might revert back to the creature that piled mountains of human sculls before its conquered cities. Normsi knew all of this, but he was young and healthy and he didn't want to die. Really once the order came, he had nothing to lose so he gather up a few belongings and left his comfortable life in New City behind to seek his fate in the decaying remnants of the old city. And to his astonishment that was when his life truly began.
