We read These Are Your Endorphins Speaking as our monthly book in September and the book generated a lot of discussion. We read a lot of chic lit and this book is not of that genre. Nevertheless it does touch on some timeless issues and it squeezes them all into 120 pages. This book is both iconoclastic and sensual which I guess is what it is like to be a cyclist with the endorphins in full flow. So we got that, but my book group wanted more. We wanted feelings. For example there are a number of opera references in the book and it is clear that the author derives a lot of pleasure from this art form, but what was he really feeling? One of our book group members said that maybe we expected too much, and that maybe that was the point of the book. Maybe the sensuality of the travel experience is enough and the resultant feelings need not be over analysed.
