Nathan Spiteri

Nathan Spiteri is a filmmaker, actor, and writer. He is also a sexual abuse survivor, TEDx speaker, activist, and advocate. Through intensive therapy and group work, Nathan now educates people on the stigma of child sexual abuse and its relation to addiction and substance abuse and helps other survivors find closure and move forward with their lives while raising awareness of men’s mental health.

Nathan works with a number of charitable organisations both in the US and Australia. He is currently the global ambassador for the Child Liberation Foundation, a foundation with the goal to eliminate child sex trafficking around the world. He also works with the Aussies Say No More Campaign as part of the global No More Campaign, Menslink, and Survivors and Mates Support Network, one of Australia’s leading associations for male survivors of child sexual abuse. His memoir, Toy Cars, is a powerful account of survival and inspiration.

Raw and powerful. On the same page Nathan makes you break down and cry, and then burst out laughing. Whilst the book explains Nathan’s experience of being groomed as child, this book is relatable to so many. The way he describes the impact of trauma - the self-loathing, self-worthless, the struggles with depression, the imposter syndrome and gaslighting - speaks to the heart of anyone who has experienced any form of trauma. The first part of the book is confronting and raw. However, as Nathan gives in to the reality of his past, he shares with his readers the power in speaking up, getting help, and finally being free. This book is more than just Nathan’s recount of his abuse. It’s a story of hope. Of survival. Of family and love. It’s a must read for survivors, educators, allied heath workers, and parents. Nathan’s message of ‘healed people heal people’ exemplifies that he is not a victim, but victorious.
Above all else, Nathan is a talented writer and author. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability with the world.
