For such a bleak novel, Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh is an exciting read. It takes you deep into the lives of heroin addicts and there are some very disturbing, violent and degrading scenes. What I enjoyed most about reading this book was the challenge of grasping the Edinburgh dialect of the characters and also the the cutting commentary on social class. This is a must read.
