Although we are bombarded by words every day, it's somehow more appealing when they are placed on the street by artists rather than advertisers.

Urban Scrawl documents some of the world's most interesting text-based street art, from formal typography to angsty scrawl. Photographer and street-art lover Lou Chamberlin has been collecting images of urban scrawl, large and small, for more than 15 years.

Whether thought-provoking, political, humorous or shocking, these examples of text in the city - spanning 54 cities across 22 countries, will make you reflect, chuckle or sometimes even laugh out loud.
