After Leona Walker's house is burglarized, she drags along her sister Betty and neighbor Clarence as she chases the thieves to get her dead husband's wedding ring and her mother's necklace back. She pushes the police detective Smythe to rush his investigation, but he has many other cases to solve ahead of hers. She visits a pawn shop and a flea market in a neighboring town where she gets a clue about who might know where her treasured items are. When Leona drives her reluctant companions to the bad part of town, they meet T-Bone and his gang who rough them up a little, but they are rescued by a lady named Molly and three boys who roam the streets. To repay them, they and the Coffee Shop gang bring food and make repairs to Molly's dilapidated house. The boys follow Leona, Betty, and Clarence home where they are treated royally. Leona returns to the flea market to look for more clues and is surprised to find Smythe there too. When she sees her mother's necklace around the neck of a girl there, she and Smythe chase her, but she gets away. Leona remembers the girl being with T-Bone so she returns to his house and finds the girl strangled with her mother's necklace. The police suspect Leona of killing her but release her. She regrets ever starting her hunt. Smythe arrests the boys and puts them into detention. Later, someone drives by Leona's house and shoots into her home. Betty is wounded and Clarence is badly hurt, but both survive. The boys tell Leona that they have seen Smythe at T-Bones house, and she thinks he's involved with the burglary ring. Leona gives up her hunt until she hears Smythe is moving the boys to another county. Convinced she's moving because they know too much, she goes on a slow speed chase and stops him. Smythe is arrested and the boys are safe.
