John French, perfectionist and absolute master of light, was at the peak of his career in the 1950s and '60s during which time he photographed the top models of his day.

Always beautifully posed and extremely elegant they included Grace Coddington, Barbara Goalen, Celia Hammond, Marla Scarafia and Jean Shrimpton, in clothing from designers ranging from Christian Dior to Mary Quant.
