Shanequah needs this job. If she can’t stay employed for a full month, she’s going to lose her welfare benefits.

The store needs Shanequah, too. With their low, low wages, they can’t keep employees for more than a few weeks.

So when Jim busts Shanequah for cheating the time clock, he has both her and the store manager begging him not to fire her. It goes against everything Jim believes in, but he agrees — as long as Shanequah gets down on her knees and begs them to let her keep her job.
