Jeanne Willis

Jeanne Willis was born in St Albans, Herts, in 1959. As a young girl she sought adventures though writing comic strips and books.

After completing a copywriting course at Watford Art College she went on to work in advertising. Today, Jeanne is an internationally renowned, full-time writer and has published over a hundred books ranging from picture books including The Bog Baby and Who's in the Loo?, to YA, poetry and fiction.

She has won several awards, including the Children's Book Award, the Silver Smarties Prize and has also been shortlisted for the Whitbread Award.

Patrice Lawrence

Patrice Lawrence was born in Brighton and brought up in an Italian-Trinidadian household in Mid Sussex.

She found her way to east London in the '90s and lives there with a partner, a teenager and a cat called Stormageddon. She has been writing for as long as she has been reading.

She loves crime fiction, sci-fi and trying to grow things. Her ideal mixtape includes drum 'n' bass, Bruce Springsteen and Studio Ghibli soundtracks.

Music can't help creeping into her books. Orangeboy was shortlisted for the Costa Book Award.

Emma Carroll

Emma Carroll is a bestselling author and the 'Queen of Historical Fiction' (BookTrust). She has been nominated for and the winner of numerous national, regional and schools awards - including the Books Are My Bag Readers' Award, Branford Boase, CILIP Carnegie Medal, Young Quills, Teach Primary and the Waterstones Book Prize.

Eva Ibbotson was born in Vienna, but when the Nazis came to power her family fled to England and she was sent to boarding school. She became a writer while bringing up her four children, and her bestselling novels have been published around the world. Eva died peacefully in October 2010 at the age of eighty-five.

Sally Nicholls

Sally Nicholls was born in Stockton-on-Tees, just after midnight, in a thunderstorm. She spent most of her childhood trying to make real life as much like a book as possible.

Her first book, Ways to Live Forever, won the Waterstones Children's Book Prize in 2008 and in 2015 her book An Island of Our Own was shortlisted for the Costa children's prize. Sally lives in a little house in Oxford, writing stories and trying to believe her luck.

Katherine Woodfine

Katherine Woodfine is the author of The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow and sequels.

She previously worked at Book Trust, ran the YA Literature Convention, and now hosts the children’s book radio show Down the Rabbit Hole.

Ella Risbridger

Ella Risbridger is a writer and poet.

She has written for the Guardian, Prospect, Grazia and Stylist, and she is the beauty columnist for the i. Midnight Chicken is her first book. She lives in London.

Kiran Millwood Hargrave

Kiran Millwood Hargrave is an award-winning poet, playwright, and bestselling novelist. Her debut novel for children The Girl of Ink & Stars won the Waterstones Children's Book Prize, and the British Book Awards Children's Book of the Year.

Her work has been short- and long-listed for other major prizes including the Costa Award, and the CILIP Carnegie Award. The Deathless Girls is her first novel for Young Adults. She's a graduate of both Oxford and Cambridge Universities, and lives by the river in Oxford with her husband and cat.

Catherine Johnson

Catherine Johnson is an award-winning writer of Welsh/African Caribbean descent, now living in Hastings in East Sussex.

Her novels for children include Stella; The Dying Game; Arctic Hero, selected for Booked Up 2009; The Curious Tale of the Lady Caraboo; and A Nest of Vipers, shortlisted for the UKLA Award 2009.

She lectures in creative writing at London Metropolitan University and is a Trustee of The Reading Agency.

She works regularly with children and teachers in primary schools and libraries across the UK. This is the sequel to Sawbones, winner of the Historical Association's Young Quills Award for Historical Fiction.
