EXCERPT from this book:-

“A wise defense attorney could turn this case into a referendum on the government’s attempt to conceal the truth and silence a defenseless Matt B. who is simply being railroaded by the American Government.

I can hear the closing argument now or at least the argument I would make to defend him.

“Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury; What we are here to determine is not how a brave soldier who risked his life to defend this great country of ours could attempt to sell it out for a buck as the prosecution would have you to believe. We are here to determine how on God’s earth could this brave soldier risk his life for America yet have to fight harder for his own life, own character, own existence harder than he had to on the battlefield. You have the power to set this brave soldier free; brave not only for taking out the greatest terrorist to threaten our shores, but braver yet for holding the mirror of truth up so that his beloved America can also see that truth reflected like the twilights last gleaming.”

A jury could certainly find on a balance of probabilities that the government tried to cover-up the truth and that Matt B. was simply trying to give the public the truth about the raid. Then again in the spirit of being balanced, I could also represent the government and my closing argument would flow something like this.

“Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, Be not bedazzled and star struck by the defense about the issues of twilights gleaming and the like. This case is not about a government trying to silence the truth, this is about the greatest country on earth trying to defend her borders from the overzealous reaches of those within its ranks. Those like Mr. Owen who have sworn allegiance to her flag, those who have signed that they would uphold her with their last breath and keep in confidence the things that could be used against her. This is about the defense not of a rogue Seal. This is about the defense of the America we love. What if that manuscript falls into the hands of another terrorist organization hell bent of creating another 9-11? What if they have now learned the inner workings of our military and as we speak are in the midst of creating another Osama Bin Laden? What if they are now seasoned by the manuscript detailing the actions of an undisciplined ex-soldier out for revenge? What if because of what he has done that in one year’s time this building in which you deliberate is no more, The juror to your left or right is consumed by terrorist flames and no more, that this country we call home is torn apart because of threats that now have teeth? What would have been the point if at the end of the day we are not here to question in luxury as we do today? This is not about a soldier making a buck. This is about the existence and safety of America as we know it. Ladies and Gentlemen we must not, should not, cannot, send the message that those within our ranks have a free for all to speak their minds and the price we will pay is our lives? I say not. Do the appropriate thing and find him guilty for the wrongs he has done.”
