This Christmas spend time to hear the story of a man who met Santa Claus and look through your window bit further into the skies for a sleigh of reindeers.

The poem is also known as ‘A visit from St. Nicholas’ and it has been written by Clement Clarke Moore in 1822 for his two daughters. “Twas the Night Before Christmas” tells a story about a father who meets St. Nick on Christmas Eve. St. Nicholas had never been associated with a sleigh and reindeers prior to the first publication of the poem in 1823.

Moore’s description of St. Nick helped create Santa Claus as he is thought of today.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ is still read to children around the world every Christmas. It is also the most published, most memorised and most collected book of all Christmas literature.

This magical poem so creatively written has been in our culture for centuries and it will be entertaining us for centuries to come.

Clement Clarke Moore

Clement Clarke Moore was a scholar of ancient languages, but is remembered to this day for his memorable poem 'The Night Before Christmas', which started appeared anonymously in newspapers in the 1820s.

His character of St Nicholas strongly influenced the character of Santa Claus that we know today, and reading aloud the poem remains a favourite Christmas tradition.
