Barry Pain (1864-1928) — was a British journalist, poet and writer. Barry Pain got education at Cambridge and soon started his literary career in 'Granta' journal and eventually became one of its most significant authors. Barry Pain gained recognition as a satirist as well as a horror writer. 'The Orchestrome' is a short satirical story which, as many other stories by Barry Pain, seems to deal with plain day-to-day things but if you take a deeper look at it you fill find the symbolical meaning of it. A lady and a gentleman buy some strange musical instrument — 'The Orchestrome' and try to play it. The result sounds awful and the man gets angry ang goes back to the ladies who sold it...
