Treasure Island is an adventure novel written by Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson, first published as a book in 1883. The novel consists of 34 chapters; each of them is divided in 6 parts. Treasure Island is a tale with deep atmosphere, it traditionally considered as a coming-of-age story. The story goes from the perspective of main character named Jim Hawkins, except chapters 16-18. It is one of the most frequently dramatized of all novels. The story takes place in 18th century, England, near the city of Bristol. It is the famous world-known story spawned innumerous number of adaptations and similar stories all over the world. The influence of Treasure Island on popular perceptions of pirates is enormous, including such elements as treasure maps marked with an "X", schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen bearing parrots on their shoulders.
