You were mine is book 9 in the Rosemary Beach series. Abbi Glines had me gripping my book, not wanting to put it down and at the same time scared to turn the pages. This book held so much sadness and regret that it could have gone any way. The mystery that surrounded their story from the very beginning had me begging for this book and it was definitely worth waiting for.
“The night grew darker, and the silence wrapped around us like a cocoon. A place where the past seemed distant and the future was unknown.”
Tripp Newark has a past, one that he has been carrying around for 5 years. 5 long excruciating years. Growing up in a family that was pushing him to be something he wasn't, Tripp made a decision to leave Rosemary beach, in doing that he left behind Bethy, the one girl he loved, who made his life something he wanted it to be. But leaving took so much away from them both. Returning years later, Tripp is welcomed home by his cousin Jace, and now girlfriend Bethy, but when Jace suddenly dies trying to save Bethy’s life, both Tripp and Bethy are left with broken hearts and so much anger.
Tripp feels like he owes it to Bethy to look over her, he feels responsible for what she’s gone through. After all had he not left her behind in Rosemary Beach, she wouldn't be going through any of the heartbreak and devastation she is.
“I had nothing to blame Tripp for. The wall I’d built to keep out all the memories that came with him finally crumbled and left me completely raw.”
Carrying on life after Tripp left her was never easy, but when Bethy and Jace start dating she feels like she can move on. she can leave behind everything that Tripp put her through. Unfortunately when Tripp returns years later, old feelings resurface, anger, hurt and resentment. Deciding that being friends is easier than blaming Tripp for for her downfalls Bethy finds herself remembering the past, and what it was like with Tripp, before Jace. But the guilt she carries around from both Tripp and Jace is too much. She has her walls up and put in place. Slowly learning to be friends and trust each other will open more wounds than either of them imagined.
“When I needed to be saved from the darkness that losing you had put me though, he’s the one who saved me. He’s made me laugh again. He’s made me feel again. And I wanted to live again. If I live my life, that doesn't mean I'll forget you. That won’t happen. What we had will never leave me. You will never leave me.”
You were mine had a rawness to it that was so alluring. Tripp and Bethy’s past was surrounded by mystery and resentment that we could never have imagined. But somehow their delicate and broken pieces fit together. Another stunning book from one of my all time favorite series. Bring on book 10 in the series Mase and Reese’s book, When I’m gone.
