After a long absence from his hometown, Gabriel returns to the nondescript community of Middletown. But the Preacher soon realises that the place of his birth and childhood has fallen by the wayside, its residents given over to vice and sin, including his own brothers family. Surrounded by gambling, cruelty, lust and betrayal, Gabriel takes it upon himself to deliver the residents of Middletown from their own damnation.
