Philomena is the true story of one mother's search for her lost son. Falling pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena Lee was sent to the convent of Roscrea to be looked after as a "fallen woman". When her son Anthony was a toddler, he was taken away by the nuns for adoption in America.

After secretly searching for him for decades, Philomena (Judi Dench) meets Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan), a world-weary BBC journalist and former government advisor, as cynical as Philomena is trusting. Martin agrees to take on Philomena's story as a "human interest" feature for a daily newspaper. Together they embark on a journey of discovery, revealing the extraordinary life of Philomena's son whilst forming an unexpectedly close bond.

Warm, witty and compassionate and featuring a powerhouse performance from Judi Dench, Philomena is not to be missed.
