Missing Conspiracy 365 Black Ops is the fifteenth book in the Conspiracy 365 series by Australian author Gabrielle Lord, and the first in the Black Ops trilogy. A text to Cal Ormond with a cryptic skull & crossbones and 90 days warning starts off this trilogy. Cals twin brother Ryan is missing and Cal himself is kidnapped and faces several challenges before discovering he is being tested by an Intelligence Organisation, SI6, who recruit him for a special mission. Cal is inserted covertly onto Shadow Island, the location of a free youth refuge run by the Paradise People Resort to check on the status of Ryan and a certain Sophie Bellamy, and to check that the manager of the resort is acting properly. Of course, nothing is quite as wholesome as it first appears, and Cal is soon in the thick of it. Cal faces a stun-gun, possible drowning, stinging trees and clinging vines, dangerous seas, Irukanje jellyfish and rugged rocks. Robotic animals, paragliding, passwords, computer hacking, a mountain bunker, tattoos and arm wounds, roll calls, runaways, underground caverns and an amnesic prisoner in a concrete bunker all feature. Some editions feature a lenticular panel giving the cover a 3D look. In keeping with the countdown theme, the pages run in reverse order and the chapter headings count down the days remaining. Both Cal and Ryan feature in this book, including some cute twins-swapping-places parts, while Boges and Winter give support off-island. The action is non-stop and it is easy to see how these books appeal to youth readers. Be prepared for a cliff-hanger ending. Reading of Black-Ops #2, Hunted, will be a must read.
