Since 1991, Suzanne Collins has been busy writing for children's television. She has worked on the staffs of several Nickelodeon shows, including the Emmy-nominated hit Clarissa Explains it All and The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo. For preschool viewers, she penned multiple stories for the Emmy-nominated Little Bear and Oswald. She also co-wrote the critically acclaimed Rankin/Bass Christmas special, Santa, Baby! Most recently she was the Head Writer for Scholastic Entertainments Clifford's Puppy Days, and a freelancer on Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!
While working on a Kids WB show called Generation O! she met childrens author James Proimos, who talked her into giving children's books a try.

I am very badly torn.
First of all, I LOVED the first two books. Suzanne Collins has a fantastic writing style and imagination. The arenas of the Hunger Games themselves have probably been the most exciting setting of any dystopia I’ve ever read, so I thought it may be a bit different when there were no Hunger Games to anchor the last book. Even while expecting the worst, I didn’t mind the first half of the book. Just the second half… I have to say it *kind of* ruined the series for me.
While the first two books had quite intricate plots, I found ‘Mockingjay’ to be quite cheap, and the second half just pathetic to be honest. I personally thought that Collins played it far too safe and just started killing off characters at random to make something happen. She stuck to a lot of YA clichés and throughout the book, the only character development was through Prim – but then yea. Mmhm. Let’s not.
I won’t even sugar-coat it, the ending was horrendous. 1 – it made no sense (where the characters ended up). 2 – it left far too many unanswered questions and loose ends. 3 – after all the build-up to a ‘war’, there was just a pile of nope. 4 – I just found myself utterly despising Katniss after closing the book. I’ve had a day to think it over since finishing it, and I really do have to say that the ending of Mockingjay has just about put me off the series altogether. I’m not sure if I’d be interested in rereading the first two books because I know how it ends and how much it irritates me.
