The stirring saga of one famous cane toad continues ... Limpy is tired of seeing his relatives run over. When he hears of a place where cane toads and humans live in harmony, he is determined to go there and find out the secret himself. Limpy finds a migratory bird who agrees to carry him to South America in his claws, he plans to take Goliath along to stop him declaring war on every human he comes across. Then, to his horror, he discovers that his little sister Charm has learned of his plan and has gone instead. Limpy and Goliath are determined to catch up with Charm, after an eventful trip via bird claws and the underside of a seat on a plane, they end up in the Amazon. While searching for Charm, Limpy and Goliath discover that the jungle is a violent place, Limpy comes into contact with his doppelganger - a toad whose had allowed the squashing of his face and leg by humans to turn him nasty. When Limpy finds evidence (so he thinks) that Charm has been killed by a bulldozer, he considers siding with Flatface in a war against the humans, but his customary good sense and kind nature reasserts itself. He then discovers that Charm is most probably not dead, and, on the advice of the Amazonian cane toads, seeks out the wise man who can see everything. The wise man not only helps him locate Charm, but gives him the secret of living in harmony with humans.

Morris Gleitzman

Morris Gleitzman grew up in England and came to Australia when he was sixteen.

After university he worked for ten years as a screenwriter. Then he had a wonderful experience.

He wrote a novel for young people. Now, after 36 books, he's one of Australia's most popular children's authors.

In February 2018 Morris was chosen as the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2018-19.

I want to be an ambassador for the fears and hopes and dreams and dreads that young people have as they contemplate and navigate today’s world, and also as they think about the possibilities of their future adult worlds,’ Gleitzman said.

‘Much of my time will be spent championing stories as a medium for young people to engage creatively with those possibilities. Stories reveal themselves in our imaginations, our intellects and our emotions—all places where we work on our own destinies.’
