[When someone admits to strange experiences, whether witnessing an unidentified object hovering in the sky, having telepathic hunches, or seeing angels or ghosts, those who hear the story almost always deride the claim as a product of mistaken perception, drunkenness, stupidity, or even mental illness. Though these unsympathetic, psychological explanations remain the most popular response to claims of the supernatural, those who use them often have little understanding of what these psychological ""solutions"" actually entail. This study offers a balanced and accessible analysis of various explanations for the paranormal. By offering insight into how these theories are applied, and at times misapplied, to this intriguing field of enquiry, the work clarifies the relationship between the field of psychology and the supernatural.]
