Since opening in September 2004,Locomotion ¿ The National Railway Museumat Shildon has attracted one and a quartermillion visitors to a part of County Durhamwhich is steeped in railway history. From theopening of the Stockton & Darlington Railwayin 1825 through the long heritage of theNorth Eastern Railway and latterly BritishRailways wagon works, the museumcelebrates both the local and national storythrough its location, buildings and being hometo some 70 vehicles from the NationalCollection.
