"The two Chronicles presented here were written in Persian in the 19th century and represent important primary sources on the history of Karabagh and the rest of Transcaucasia from the mid-18th century until the Russian conquest of the region in the first quarter of the 19th century. The authors were Muslim officials from Karabagh who wrote their histories immediately after the Russian conquest and had access to official decrees, state documents, and most importantly, gathered information from eye-witnesses who had survived the turmoil. The first Chronicle, Mirza Jamal's, was published in an English (translated by me) in 1994. It has been out of print for many years. Since then new material has emerged, both in Armenia and Azerbaijan, which has enabled me to revise and update the original edition. The second Chronicle, Mirza Adigozal's, has never been translated into English. Both sources have ample information about Karabagh, Georgia, Shirvan, Daghestan, Nakhichevan, Erevan, Iranian Azerbaijan, and especially the Armenian and Turkie population residing in Karabagh. Both sources detail the history of Iran under Nader Shah Afshar, Karim Khan Zand, and the early Qajars. Various tribes and tribal chiefs and their attempt to seize the Iranian throne are also depicted in colorful episodes."
