Something remarkable occurred in Latin America in the new millennium. For the first time since the Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua, the region has seen radical left governments come to power - specifically in Venezuela, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Yet, as Latin America's Turbulent Transitions provocatively argues, although US hegemony in the region is on the wane, the traditional socialist project is also declining and something new is emerging.
