David Ewan Marr (born 14 July 1947 in Sydney) is an Australian journalist, author, and progressive political and social commentator.

His areas of expertise include the law, Australian politics, censorship, the media and the arts.

He writes for The Monthly and until recently The Sydney Morning Herald and appears as a semi-regular panelist on the ABC television programs, Q&A and Insiders.

David Marr is the author of Patrick White: A Life, Panic, The High Price of Heaven and Dark Victory (with Marian Wilkinson), as well as five bestselling Quarterly Essays.

He has written for the Sydney Morning Herald, the Age, the Saturday Paper, the Guardian and the Monthly, and been editor of the National Times, a reporter for Four Corners and presenter of ABC TV’s Media Watch.
