A collection of essays, edited by William Morris Society members Stephen Coleman and Paddy O'Sullivan, which discuss the relevance today of William Morris' ideas, as set out in "News from Nowhere". Received in its time as backward-looking and hopelessly romantic, Morris' utopian vision is in fact more relevant today than ever before. With the breakdown of the old order in Eastern Europe, and the crisis of capitalism in the West, together with the "greening" of societies in both parts of Europe and elsewhere, the search is on for new ways of thinking and of action, for new social and political structures, and for new attitudes to Nature and ourselves. In "News from Nowhere" we find one man's coherent vision of "how we live and how we might live", which is as fresh and as relevant today as it was a hundred years ago.
