Animal Farm is every bit as good as I expected. This is a very easy read due to George Orwell's superb writing but the message within is also an important one. The well-known line 'some animals are more equal than others' is one great legacy but there are many poignant moments as we follow the animals' revolutionary path. Without going into only the primary Communism allegory, there's a question of basic human nature and its lack of compatibility with any sort of Utopian vision or planned society. Animal Farm to me looks at this problem in a broader sense, while also being about the power, authority, manipulation and control over others explored in detail by Orwell in 1984. It's a fairly short book which won't take long to get through and I would highly recommend reading this one. Even if they are allegorical, you do find yourself caring about the farm animals and their treatment. I kind of wish the pigs weren't such bad guys though, as I quite like pigs.
