This collection summarizes and illuminates two decades of research on the conceptual foundations of artificial intelligence and cognitive science, gathering together papers by both philosophers and scientists. Each volume begins with a comprehensive introduction that places the coverage in a broader perspective and links it with material in the companion volumes. The volumes are: "Machine Intelligence", which looks at nature of initial research into machine intelligence, beginning with a seminal paper by Alan Turing; "Cognitive Architectures in Artificial Intelligence", looks at the three major research programmes that have emerged over three decades in research in artificial intelligence and cognitive science; "Conciousness and Emotion in Cognitive Science", an anthology of landmark essays which cover a range of cognitive phenomena, from visual perception to problem solving; and "Language and meaning in Cognitive Science" which contains recent essays on different aspects of language.
