Publication Date: 08/11/2017
Marissa F. Cohen is the Founder and Executive Director of the Nonprofit, Within Your Reach, Inc., that works with warriors of sexual assault and domestic violence by creating an open and supportive community, and training advocates around the country about the appropriate ways to respond to warriors in crisis. She is also a co-founder of the program #IMASTATISTIC, with her friend and colleague, in an effort to Break the Silence by humanizing sexual assault survivors.Marissa grew up between Chicago, IL and New Jersey, and was heavily influenced by plays like Spring¿s Awakening, and books like Speak and Perks of Being a Wallflower. Now, she has made Chicago her home, surrounding herself with friends and family. As far back as high school, Marissa considered herself a social activist. One of her earliest attempts was to end animal testing with makeup products, and add a fresh salad bar to her high school cafeteria. Only one of those was achieved. Present-day, Marissa splits her work day between working as a government contractor for the Army Reserve, helping service members with ¿adult life issues¿, and developing Within Your Reach. Two roles that she absolutely loves.
