How can you bring your kids up happy and kind when there is so much hatred in the world? In today's world, one thing has become clear: racism is not a thing of the past. And in order to make sure our children don't struggle with the same issues we are facing now, we have to start talking to kids about race early and often. In Bringing Up Race, Uju Asika gives families of any ethnicity the context and conversation starters they need to begin having informed and positive discussions about race at home. Readers will explore: When children start noticing racial differences (hint: much earlier than you think), What to do if your child says something racist, How to have open, honest, age-appropriate conversations about race, How children and parents can handle racial bullying, How to recognize and challenge everyday racism, aka microaggressions, Drawing on Uju's own experiences as the mother of two Black boys, expert opinions, and true stories from parents across the globe, Bringing Up Race is a call to action for everyone raising or working with young people as our society strives to combat white supremacy and dismantle the systemic racism that has existed for hundreds of years.
