Guthrie Hutton's second book on Perth for Stenlake features almost 180 archive photographs, accompanied by captions telling the story of the city's growth and development. Trams both horse-drawn and electric are illustrated along with the city's train station and rolling stock in the days of steam locomotives. Devastating fires at Arthur Bell's bond and Peter Campbell's dyeworks are included, as are photographs of Perth's public fire brigade and Pullar's private one in the days when their engines were still pulled by horses.
