At Berkeley during the 1964-65 school year, Mario Savio and his fellow students led the fight to lift a ban of on-campus political activities, a struggle that blossomed into the Free Speech Movement. As Savio declared in his famous December 1964 speech- oThere's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part!
