This textcovers developments in all aspects of Internet and data networks. It includes future aspects of the Local Area Network, Wide Area Networks and the Internet and provides insight into broadband services operated by leading communications companies. With contributions from world-class developers, marketers and vendors, this book gives a balanced view of what customers are demanding and how those demands are being met by a range of data networks and services. Data Network Engineering provides the reader with detailed technical understanding of how networks are actually put together. Topics include the role of services and technologies such as Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), the Switched Multi-megabit Data Service (SMDS), Data Network Security, Internetworking, the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and Frame Relay, as well as an introduction to the transmission and switching networks such as the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) that underpin them. Throughout, the book provides much insight into routers and their development, and includes design rules for building large router-based data networks.
This book would be useful to anyone working in the field, for anyone looking for guidance on how data networks are evolving and for all those studying to become the data networking experts of tomorrow.
