The law of death and life is among the most important aspects of our legal system. In some areas, the law has a powerful impact on causing or preventing death. In other areas, less so. Sometimes the impact is direct. Sometimes indirect. But In every situation, the law plays some role in deciding who shall die and who shall live. In general, the law follows the Biblical command: "choose life." The question then becomes: whose life-and whose death? The mother or the fetus? The citizens of our nation or theirs? The Innocent or the guilty? The policeman or the suspect? The many or the few? The powerful or the powerless?
