This book brings together a range of ecocity concepts, perspectives and projects from practitioners and researchers in the built environment. Through an eclectic collection of case studies and specialised topics from around the globe, the book explores a range of approaches to achieving a more sustainable built environment. In general it takes a bottom-up pragmatic approach based on real design and research projects, rather than dealing with top-down political aspirations. The focus is on the built environment and its related infrastructures, and in particular the energy and zero carbon agenda. But there are also related issues of quality of life, people's well-being and social inclusion, that are at the heart of our future Ecocity ambitions.
