Volume 1: Transportation Systems
Hardback
Publication Date: 23/10/1997
The papers that make up this volume are derived from presentations at the First International Conference on Engineering Psychology and Cognitive Ergonomics, and are concered with human factors in transportation systems. The human factors issues involved in air traffic management from the pilot's and the air traffic controller's perspective are explored, and the concerns of the ground-based aspects of air traffic control are also discussed. In contrast with the first part of the text, which is primarily concerned with the interaction of the pilots and their equipment, the emphasis of the third section is placed more towards the psychology of the individual. The fourth section focuses on road users, using the aviation environment to examine lessons learned, before committing the same mistakes again in road vehicles. The "Transportation Pot Pourri" deals with such diverse issues as naval command and control, automation in trains, and new technology in armoured fighting vehicles.
