Just dropping by to share from my own experience that I would recommend Finding Freeway by Stella Perrott to be definitely worth considering as a gift for the YA readers in your life. And to add that, along with its prequel, Finding Magic, it's likely to be an unmissable hit if they’re into horses!, although it’s not a prerequisite. FYI the age groups of the main characters run from about 12 to 17, so there’s a connection for a range of readers there. I particularly liked its combination of everyday life, family and friendships; unexpected questions / intrigue / mystery and adventure running along on the back burner; the intersection of times gone by with the present; and very readable dialogue, descriptions and action scenes that keep the story rolling. And also, for the parent / grandparent / aunty etc who may be giving either of these books as a present, they also invite a little bit of contemplation about life and stuff as well in what I found for this age group to be a constructive yet unobtrusive way. I have heard that there’s another sequel on the way too which is great as it’s always nice to see kids getting tucked into a good series – and to have another gift up your sleeve for their next birthday or Christmas! Watch this space : )
