Photographer Alex Geana has captured the spirit of Fire Island over a three-year span, telling the story of The Pines from legendary pool parties to all-night dancing on the beach.

A fashion photographer in the commercial world, he brings his unique ability to simutaneously capture elegance and lifestyle with his lens by distilling the essence of The Pines in a glamorous and expansive body of photographic work.

His pictures exude the happiness and joy the gay community find in a place where everyone can be free to express their individuality and sexuality.

Freedom of expression, the uniqueness and sense of place is found in every picture. He documents Fire Island from the Pines Party to the Meat Rack, and goes on to show how global warming is affecting the experience, bringing attention to the preservation needs of this special place.

Alex Geana

Alex Geana was born in 1979 in Bucharest, Romania. His family immigrated to Southern California when he was 5 years old, and he moved to New York City as a young adult. There, his exposure to the world of art inspired him to focus exclusively on developing his talents as a writer and photographer.

He began taking photographs largely to support his work as a writer. By 2007 his skill and work as a photographer took on greater prominence and became the focus of his career.

His work in fashion photography became the prime element of his work for the digital media giant Huffington Post, where visual media is the key factor to garnering readership. Much of his current and past photography focuses on fashion, gay culture and portraiture.
