A thought-provoking and compassionate novel from the award-winning author of Boy Overboard, Girl Underground and the Felix stories: Once, Then, Now, After, Soon and Maybe.

"A serious message wrapped up in greatness of heart and lightness of touch." The Bookbag

In the beginning there was me and Mum and Dad and the twins. And talk about happy families, we were bountiful. But it came to pass that I started doing sins. And lo, that was when all our problems began. Grace, who comes from a fundamentalist Christian community, has always been encouraged to think for herself by her parents.

When she produces a school project that goes against the community's teachings, she is faced with the threat of being cast out and losing her family. As she fights to keep her family together and find her true self, she learns valuable lessons about self-discovery and standing up for oneself. With powerful themes and relatable characters, this story is a must-read for any child struggling with individuality and finding their voice.

Morris Gleitzman

Morris Gleitzman grew up in England and came to Australia when he was sixteen.

After university he worked for ten years as a screenwriter. Then he had a wonderful experience.

He wrote a novel for young people. Now, after 36 books, he's one of Australia's most popular children's authors.

In February 2018 Morris was chosen as the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2018-19.

I want to be an ambassador for the fears and hopes and dreams and dreads that young people have as they contemplate and navigate today’s world, and also as they think about the possibilities of their future adult worlds,’ Gleitzman said.

‘Much of my time will be spent championing stories as a medium for young people to engage creatively with those possibilities. Stories reveal themselves in our imaginations, our intellects and our emotions—all places where we work on our own destinies.’
