All I can tell you is what I remember, in the words that I have.

Hayley tends to her bees and follows the rules in the only world she has ever known.

Until she witnesses the impossible: a drip from the ceiling.

A drip? It doesn't make sense.

Yet she hears it, catches it. Tastes it.

Curiosity is a hook.

What starts as a drip leads to a lie, a death, a boy, a beast, and too many awful questions.

In both the strange world of Hive and the real world, curiosity is a hell of a hook. This book, I’m happy to say, had me completely hooked from the very first page. It’s the latest novel from A.J. Betts (of Zac and Mia fame), and it’s an intriguing take on the sci-fi dystopian trend that is atmospheric, sinister and utterly compelling.

Hive is set in a subterranean world where everyone has their role and safety is guaranteed - as long as you don’t ask too many questions. Fifteen year old beekeeper Hayley, however, is a curious soul whose growing suspicions lead to way more trouble than she ever bargained for when she hears a mysterious dripping sound. I don’t want to give away too much more, as it's definitely better if you go into this book blind. Rest assured, however, that this book is not your typical sci-fi or dystopian YA novel - it’s raw, powerful and poetic, and I can’t wait to read what happens next!
