The conceit of pretending I was a time traveller lost in time really drew me in and kept me reading. Lots of interesting stuff about things humans invented, with a lot of jumour, especially about dogs (breed you own good boys and girls from wolves in just 18 years!), pizza & beer (teaching you how to grow yeast to make these things), and how long it took humans to apply concepts we already knew to other applications (like we had all the technologies for hot air balloons four-thousand years before human flight). If you're interested in a heavily summarised (philosophy down to a few pages of analogies about high-fives) pop-science history of everything we as a species have ever invented, this is the book for you!
