Curious to make sense of your life? Want to understand who you are and why you're here? Need to make peace with the past and get re-energised about the future?

In this fascinating and original book Peter Quarry skilfully deconstructs his own life, showing how you too can unpack and reboot yours.

As sex and drug addicted Pete, he describes his sometimes shocking, always colourful background. Then, as internationally recognised psychologist PQ, he analyses it with compassionate, yet clinical, objectivity. The result is a work of insight and practical wisdom.

In putting himself on his own couch, Quarry will inspire you to reflect on your life's journey and give you a toolkit to confront the curveballs inevitably heading your way.

I found this book hard to read, hard to read as it took me longer than normal as it held up a mirror to where I am in my life and I kept pausing to reflect.
I had to continually stop, partly as it made me think of how I would record my own life and also how my life has developed and how I can cope with the next stage. Some of it, especially the childhood years, are very cinematic. A very good read.

Probing, thought provoking and delightfully entertaining. This fascinating interplay between patient and psychologist through letters, allows the reader to experience both sides of the therapeutic couch. I have recommended this great read to some of my patients in the hope that it might give them some much needed guidance.

One of the most engaging and unique books I have read. This book was light hearted but deep, easy to digest, funny and sassy all the way through.. all whilst feeling very connected to Pete, the writer. Highly recommend to anyone who is open minded about reflecting on their own lives and journeys.
10/10!

A lively and fascinating personal history and a terrific primer of psychological theory to make sense of a life, even your own. After reading, have been checking out the Imago theory of romantic attraction. Thank you PQ.

I will be upfront and honest by making it clear that I have met Peter, employed by him for a project some time ago.

Whatever it is that you are thinking… you are wrong! We all judge books by their cover… so what? It’s life! I had the impression that i was about to undergo a psychological snoozefest. Reminder of uni days… over complicated sentences that had to be re read just to make sure that I did comprehend it.

Peter’s story is so much More than that. It is an interesting style of writing which really worked for me. Like an old perry mason ‘who dunnit’ I became curious and had questions. I could hear myself getting frustrated… but what about x or what happened to y.
Rest assured every stone gets upturned and every question gets answered.

Peter’s story is unique, his struggle is real. This is a journey you will not regret.

Great book! Really well written, easy to read... I couldn’t put it down! Although it is a self-help book, it’s not the typical book in this genre. Peter takes you, with great courage, through his journey of self-discovery… you get to understand how to do a life review and at the same time discover a fascinating (and colourful) life!
It really made me reflect on my own life and has inspired me to analyse various aspects of my life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The unusual format of memoir and self help gave it authenticity and credibility. The author has laid bare his own life with honesty and vulnerability but has also provided so many moments of practical insight for you to take away in your own life. It brought up lots of triggers for me in my own life and allowed me to look deeper at my own behaviours and patterns of behaviour that no longer serve me. It's great for anyone going through any sort of career/life changes without being whoo whoo at all. The psychology information weaved into the book was very interesting as well. Highly recommend!

I totally enjoyed this book. It's a very engaging read and I found that it triggered a lot of thinking - about who I am and what my life is about. It has an unusual structure: it's a series of letters between two parts of the same person. It's wild!
Loved it!

The innovative structure of this book allows Quarry to explore a range of responses to to the everyday problems of life. It is particularly strong in exploring the single Mother / child relationship and the last section on the future is great for reader self-analysis

Quarry not only writes with decades of psychology knowledge behind him, but also with a joyful wit and an admirable vulnerability.

I found this book therapeutic to read, as the back and forth between the 'client' and 'psychologist' evokes both empathy and optimism for the personal difficulties we can all face.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for some clarity in the craziness of life, as Quarry lays out a comprehensive guide for self-reflection in a unique and effective way.

Insightful and inspiring, found myself reflecting on my own journey, whilst super keen to learn about the next phase of Peter’s life journey. So many helpful ideas to take away. The final letters were a ‘jolt’ to be honest, Wow!

I was fortunate enough to be given this book as a gift from a close friend. Not being a big reader, initially I was hesitant, however after starting I honestly couldn’t put it down. Two days later, my reading was complete! I’d been taken on an insightful and reflective journey and often found myself analysing and contemplating my own life. Peter Quarry has a unique style which is challenging and thought provoking. He has a wonderful ability to entertain the reader while guiding them through strategies to help gain insights about their own lives. It’s a great read – the perfect present!
