This interdisciplinary volume brings together an international group of researchers to discuss the influence of inherited wealth on justice and equality. In debates about social policy, inheritance is frequently a topic of fierce discussion and disagreement. Some argue for the abolition of all remaining forms of inheritance taxation, while others advocate higher inheritance taxes to finance new policy proposals. The debates are fuelled by different conceptions of the notions of justice and equality, and by differences in the importance that individuals attach to these notions. This volume assesses and explores the debates relating to this issue, and examines the cultural foundations of each viewpoint. In addition, the book aims to encourage mutual engagement between disciplines, and includes contributions from sociologists, philosophers, political scientists, economists, lawyers and historians of thought.
