The Duster, formally known as the "Twin 40 mm Self-Propelled Gun 42," was a fully tracked antiaircraft vehicle developed by Cadillac and produced by both Cadillac and American Car and Foundary for the US Army in the early 1950s. The vehicle featured twin M2A1 Bofors 40 mm AA guns installed in an open gun mount on modified M41/T41 tank chassis. Although rarely used in the intended air defense role, the Duster did find a nicke during the Vietnam War. The Duster could hurl four 2-pound rounds greater than 10,000 yards each second, and that ammunition could be either high explosive, armor piercing, or incendiary. As a result, the Duster provided fast, mobile, accurate, and devastating firepower against infantry, light structures, trucks, and armored personnel carriers. Often used for convoy escort and perimeter defense work. Duster crews earned the respect and gratitude of countless servicemen whose lives were saved by the Duster men in Vietnam.
