Kathi Appelt is the author of the Newbery Honoree, National Book Award finalist and bestselling The Underneath as well as the National Book Award finalist The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp, Keeper, and many picture books, including Counting Crows.

She has two grown-up children and lives in College Station, Texas, with her husband.

Penelope Dullaghan is an award winning illustrator and picture book maker living in Indianapolis, Indiana. She home-schools her daughter and together they study art and follow their curiosity. She has been recognized by Communication Arts, CA Typography, 3×3 Magazine, Society of Illustrators, and Print Magazines and has judged illustration awards for Communications Arts and CMYK.
